Corrosion Resistant Standard Roller Chains

Roller chain is the type of chain drive most commonly used for transmission of mechanical power on many kinds of domestic, industrial and agricultural machinery, including conveyors, wire- and tube-drawing machines, printing presses, cars, motorcycles, and bicycles. It consists of a series of short cylindrical rollers held together by side links.

A roller chain strand can be shortened by removing links and lengthened by adding whole or a half links (offset links).

Stainless steel roller chain is quite different from a carbon steel roller chain in various ways. While the construction and sizes of stainless steel chains are the same as traditional ANSI standard roller chains, the parts are formed from high-grade stainless steel for use in medical, food applications, chemicals, and more. While slightly more expensive than traditional roller chains, stainless steel offers a wide range of benefits:

  • Stainless steel is corrosion-resistant at high temperatures
  • Shallow temperatures do not cause problems as these chains are not subject to cracking
  • Stainless steel is glossy and attractive, giving the appearance of cleanliness for indoor or food-related applications
